Milkshake for a good cause

Double mark your calendars for the Hope for Henry Foundation Celebration of Superheros, Past, Present & Future on Sunday, January 27 from 3-5:30pm at the AFI Silver Theater. Have the kids pin a dish towel cape to their shirt (costumes are encouraged) and meet real superhero characters, march in a parade and have a blast while helping kids in pediatric hospitals across the country. Entrance fee is simply a superhero-themed toy for needy kids and you can RSVP with one click.

I am dorkily excited that Milkshake is performing, the band with a self-proclaimed mission to create great rock music for kids. If there was an MTV TRL for kids’ music, Milkshake would be on constant rotation and have fans screaming in Times Square. If you watch kids’ TV, this is the band with the mom dancing in the tutu, not to be confused with the mom with the guitar and curly hair.

You can see a couple of Milkshake’s music videos for kids on the Jack’s Big Music show on Noggin. Watch them here by clicking on the third window along the bottom with the bumble bee girl or the one further down with a woman in an orange t-shirt with her arms raised. 50 points to you if you are raising your kids TV and/or cable-free and haven’t the foggiest about Jack, his music show or Noggin. (Hi Mary! Hi Kate!) You can also listen to previews of their mp3s on Milkshake’s official website.

And just for fun, here are some independently-run yummy places in Silver Spring to get an honest-to-goodness ice cream milkshake that brings all the boys to the yard:

Cup and Cone Yogurt and Ice Cream
Moorenko’s Silver Spring
Summer Delights in Takoma Park
Tastee Diner Silver Spring
Woodside Deli see calendar for Thurs. kids’ night dinner promo (Thanks Michelle!)
