But some Silver Spring parents happen to be mommies that are in the business of making people beautiful. One of those individuals is Jillian Behram of Jillian’s Hair Design in downtown Silver Spring. Simply put, she is one hot tamale of a hair stylist that keeps tech geeks and executives and punk rockers and postal workers and yes, soccer moms, looking pretty spicy themselves.

Formerly of Headlines, she started her own business this summer after the birth of her little boy, Demitrius Anthony. She works three days a week – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday – and finds this a great work/life balance. She says, “I enjoy having an active role in my kid’s life while also having the adult interaction outside the home.”

Jillian says that she is happiest making other people happy when they sit in her chair, whether she is completely making over a frazzled mom or maintaining an arrived fashionista’s signature look. Just weeks away from her 27th birthday, she has been a licensed stylist since she was 16 years old, taking appointments on the floor of a salon at an age the rest of us were at band practice. She loves keeping up with the latest techniques and training through continuing certification programs offered by Toni & Guy, Vidal Sassoon and others. This dynamo does everything – cuts, color, women, men, kids – providing a one-stop shop for the entire family right in our own cool town.

Jillian says that she loves the diversity of her clients, whether she is chopping 12 inches off to give someone a fresh new look (yesterday she took me from this to this), giving someone pink highlights or giving a person in chemo a really good transition cut. She is also a complete and utter riot, and every appointment with her feels like we met for drinks at Jackie’s. Infants and children that let their mom or dad enjoy their hair appointment are always welcome at Jillian’s.

Also located at First Ave. Hair Design are Dana White and Cathy Jackson, two more amazing Silver Spring women helping residents look their best. They specialize in cuts, color, shampoo & blow drys, curls, hair setting and hair weaving. They also serve women, men and children.

Seriously people, why are you still trekking all the way to the city to get your hair done?
