Friends of Sligo Creek Annual Earth Day Sweep the Creek in Silver Spring
From 9-11am, rain or shine. Passover-friendly clean up is next Sunday May 4 from 1-3pm, see calendar for details.
Walk/Run to Benefit Darfur along Sligo Creek – families and strollers welcome
The 5K route starts at the corner of University Blvd. and Sligo Creek Parkway. There are small parking lots along Sligo Creek Pkwy. $10 dollars per person, all proceeds go to Save Darfur. 9:30am-12pm.
Montgomery County Earth Day Family Fair on Saturday
Take a tour of the recycling center, obtain free compost bins and Leafgro, make earth-friendly crafts and more at this event hosted by the Division of Solid Waste. You can also bring your household electronics for recycling. From 11am-3pm at 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville.
Family Day at Glen Echo Park
The historic carousel opens for the spring season, artist demonstrations, magic shows, family activities in the Spanish Ballroom, Irish dance performances and instruction, tours by National Park Service rangers. From 11am-4pm. Carousel rides are $1, all other activities are free.

Arbor Day Celebration at the Agricultural History Farm Park
Celebrate Montgomery County’s commitment to trees and forests. Free seedlings to the first 400 visitors, musical performances, Smokey the Bear, Woodsy the Owl, balloon animal artistry, clowns, arts and crafts for kids and lots of yummy food. 18400 Muncaster Rd, Derwood, MD. 11am-4pm, rain or shine. Free admission and free parking.
Angelina Ballerina at the American Dance Institute Open House in Rockville
In honor of National Dance Week, American Dance Institute is hosting an Angelina Ballerina Open House, where children of all ages will enjoy a free afternoon of dance in real tutus with a barre, crafts, performances and a ballet “petting zoo” where children can touch real costumes and shoes from dance history. The children will have the unique opportunity to meet and dance with Angelina, the spokescharacter for National Dance Week. Children must be accompanied by an adult.12-2pm. Free.
Day of the Book Festival in Old Town Kensington
Take the kids and meet Sherlock Holmes and Watson, try your hand at bookmaking, writing, and art activities for children and adults. Listen to music by Miss Belle and John Henry. Visit the Children’s Tent at 12:30pm and 4pm for an interactive writing game with children’s book author Wendy Ormsby. On Historic Howard Avenue. From 12-5pm, rain or shine. Free.
