The Majestic 20 in Silver Spring is offering FREE SHOWS for kids and adults on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays this summer beginning next week! All shows begin at 10am and as seats cannot be reserved, parents are advised to arrive early. Special refreshment discounts include kids’ popcorn and drinks for just $1 each. Attendees can chose 1 of the 2 movies showing each day.
If you live in another area, visit the Regal Cinema Family Free Festival site to see if there are free show times near you.
Here’s the Silver Spring schedule:
June 17-19: Surf’s Up (PG) or Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (G)
June 24-26: Firehouse Dog (G) or Veggie Tales: We’re Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything (G)
July 1-3: Bee Movie (PG) or Everyone’s Hero (G)
July 8-10: The Water Horse (PG) or Wallace & Gromit (G)
July 15-17: BRATZ (PG) or Doogal (G)
July 22-24: Jimmy Neutron (G) or The Seeker: The Dark is Rising (PG)
July 29-31: Charlotte’s Web (G) or Alvin & The Chipmunks (PG)
August 5-7: Peter Pan (PG) or Rugrats in Paris (G)
And thanks to Turner Classic Movies (TCM), I have a brand new copy of The Best Old Movies for Families: A Guide to Watching Together by acclaimed Boston Globe movie critic and author Ty Burr. This guide gives synapses of classic films and provides information on the appropriate ages and talking points for introducing your children to movies not produced by Pixar.
I’m sorely tempted to keep this gorgeous reference book for myself, so hurry up and leave a comment naming your favorite flick made before 1970 and I’ll randomly choose a winner on Sunday June 15th. (My favorite: The Philadelphia Story)
