The Little Gym in Silver Spring is up and running and ready for action! My children both took advantage of the free introductory classes and had an extraordinary time. We are veterans of the kid group classes circuit, and this class was our most enjoyable to date.
The Little Gym’s curriculum aims to build motor skills, improve intellectual skills, increase flexibility, balance and rhythm, and improve self-esteem and confidence. Bettering listening skills, attention spans and social skills are other Little Gym class benefits.
My two year old and I took a parent/child “Beasts” gym class and loved every minute. The goals of the class were to not only improve physical skills, but also for the children to gain independence within the safe space of mom or dad being close-by for support when necessary. My daughter jumped, swung, balanced, bounced and made friends. She ended the class without tears and with hugs for the sweet instructors.
My four year old was Mr. Cool in a “Funny Bugs” class all on his own, without Mom. He had a blast playing games, learning the gymnastic apparatus and tumbling all over the place. The instructor provided gentle but firm direction and professional gymnastics training for safety. Two days have past since the class and he has pestered me non-stop as to when we will be going back. This from the kid that almost made me swear off group kids classes completely!
The Silver Spring Little Gym is a family affair, owned, operated and staffed by the dynamic Abeya sisters. Lani Abeya-Barnabus and husband Edward are the owner operators, Jasmine (Abeya) Kuzner is the program director and instructor and Amanda Abeya is the assistant program director. These three women and their other staff members are committed to children and to bringing a quality children’s gym program to Silver Spring.
Enrollment for the Fall Classes opens to new families on August 18th. There are parent/child classes for infants-three year olds, gymnastics classes for preschoolers-kindergartners and gymnastics for elementary school kids aged six-twelve. Here is the detailed class schedule.
Kids can also have their birthday party at The Little Gym, and parents can have a party too thanks to the Parents’ Survival Nights. Drop your potty-trained child age three-twelve off on Friday August 22 and hit the town! Enrolled families receive discounts on both survival nights and birthday parties.
