A Family Affair: APISS Weekend Picks on Mix 107.3 on Thursday Nights

While you’re loading the dishwasher tonight or having a glass of vino, tune into 107.3 FM for the APISS Weekend Picks with DJ Tommy McFly. I’ll be on live at 7:50pm on Thursday nights talking about the fun family events happening in the DC area on the weekends. I’ll be rebroadcast later in the evening too amongst the hits and adult alternative awesome. You can also listen live online.

Tommy McFly is the coolest, cutest young DJ in DC. And his Facebook tagline? “Moms love me.” Oh honey, we love you too. Meow! (Is it possible to be a nice married cougar, or am I just a shady old lady?)

Anyways, the name of my show/segment with Tommy is A Family Affair…as in the Sly and Family Stone ’70s funkadelic tune, get it?

Well, since some of you found my primitive non-Photoshop skills yesterday semi-amusing, here’s my propsed graphic for the A Family Affair show:

Family Affair on Mix 107.3 Thursday Nights at 7:50pm
That’s me and Tony, I mean TOMMY McFly of Mix 107.3

Here are my A Family Affair Weekend Picks:

This Friday, Saturday & Sunday Nights May 29 – 30 from 6-9pm:
Night at the Museum, Mount Vernon Style
Just like the goofy Ben Stiller movie, take a lantern-lit tour of George & Martha Washington’s home and then head to the new visitor center and be delighted as the exhibits come to life! Watch out for walking exhibits. My family and I did this last weekend and it was amazingly fun, the kids were in heaven. Admission prices same as during the day, advance tickets can be purchased online at mountvernon.org.

Saturday Morning May 30 at 9am:
K-9 2K Walk & the Herndon Festival
At 9am on Saturday morning, Bready Park in Herndon will have a 2K for families, dogs and their owners. There’ll be doggie swag bags, water & snack stations and a splash zone doggie pool at the park’s end. Have some fun fitness with your family and show off that cute pooch. $20 per family & pooch, proceeds benefit the Herndon Dog Park. After the walk enjoy the Hernon Festival with Hands On Art for kids and a fireworks show after sundown.

Saturday & Sunday at Glen Echo Park May 30 & May 31 from 12-7pm
The Annual Washington Folk Festival

This free festival features music, dance, storytelling, and crafts from artists in the Washington, D.C. area. This event is great for all ages from single lovebirds strolling hand in hand to families of babies through teens. Performances represent cultures from across the country and around the world. Good music, free hands-on crafts and music activities for kids. The festival is free to the public. 12-7pm both days

Sunday Night – Get A Sitter
Swing Dance Party from 8-10pm at McGinty’s in Silver Spring
Go from Daddy to Daddy-O and leave the kids at home. My husband and I love to grab a Guinness and cut a rug to fun retro tunes at this weekly free swing dance party. DJ swing nights are free to all attendees, live band nights sometimes have a small cover. Total novices welcome – everyone switches partners and dances with each other and when you twirl back to your parnter you’ve learned some new moves.

Happy weekend & thanks for tuning in tonight on Mix 107.3!
