The first 500 people in line at each of four local Gifford’s Ice Cream and Candy Co. shops this Sunday June 21st receive a free novelty sundae. The fun starts at noon and continues while supplies last.
Gifford’s is a Washington tradition, scooping yummy handmade ice cream since 1938. Here are the Gifford’s locations participating in Sunday’s sundae promo:

Why the free ice cream? Sunday’s the first official day of summer/the summer solstice, but it’s really to promote another Sundance-y rom-com, (500) DAYS OF SUMMER starring Zooey Deschanel (her name is Summer in the movie, the kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun chases her for 500 days and it’s all very sweet – get it?) The film opens in DC theaters on July 17th and the promoters will be giving out movie swag at the ice cream shops too. You can get tickets for a DC-area free advance screening of the film here and make a moms’ night out of it.
Until then, make your kids’ weekend with a big ol’ sundae instead of the puny kids cup, without even reaching for your wallet.
