FRIDAY – TONIGHT

FunFit Open Gym 1:30-8pm This Afternoon & Tonight!
Is your kid (or you) going crazy cooped up by the gray and rain? Let her get her crazies out on the moonbounce and other fun at FunFit this afternoon and evening! Kids can work out in the Circuit, run around, play and climb on the wedges, read some books, play with puzzles, cars & blocks and my kids’ fave – ride the kiddie-coaster. There’s also a new coloring and craft room going on during open gym too. On the first and third Fridays at FunFit, Open Gym occurs from 1:30-7:30pm, the second and fourth Fridays from 1:30-5:30pm and the second Friday of the month you can drop your kid at the Just for Kids party while you go out childless. Here’s a coupon for $2 off!

SATURDAY

Children’s Day at Brookside Gardens (thanks Gladys!)
One of the best annual kids events ev-a, from 11am-4pm your kids will be in heaven making nature crafts, rocking out to family band the RTTs, getting their faces painted, seeing live honeybees and other interactive activities. For kids preschool-elementary, everything is FREE.

Kids’ Art, Storytime & Eric Carle Exhibit at Pyramid Atlantic ArtSpring Store
2pm – 5pm In the old Marimekko space, Pyramid Atlantic‘s Community ArtSpring Store is not only a fab place to shop, it’s got fun stuff going on all the time. At 2:15, 3:15 or 4:15 special guests read aloud to children favorite stories by Eric Carle, the picture book master, and then kids make a take-home project inspired by Carle’s illustrations. Also on display, Imagination Blooms, an exhibit of art created by TRC kids in honor of the 40th anniversary of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Then from 5:30-8pm there’s an Art & Wine Reception for grown ups too.
(NOTE: Last week I terribly, erroneously posted this event as happening last weekend. My most humble apologies to Thien-Kim and any one else who showed due to my error.)

SUNDAY

CANCELED! – Rosalyn Schanzer – Author and Illustrator of Children’s Books – Reading and Multimedia Family Event at the Hyattsville Library
At 2pm on Sunday, the author of What Darwin Saw: The Journey That Changed the World will read and host a multimedia presentation of her book The Washington Post Book World calls, “…lively illustrations, straightforward narration…The landscapes are gorgeous…the animals expressive and the amount of information dizzying…” Aimed at ages 8-adult.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY

18th Century Fair at Mount Vernon
From 9am-5pm both days, families can experience a carnival from George and Martha’s time. This marketplace will have 50 costumed artisans demonstrating crafts, entertainers showcase 18th-century amusements like sword swallowing, Punch & Judy puppet shows, jugglers and even Silas the Rat Catcher. I have no idea how a rat catcher is showcased at a fair, as I babbled about on Mix 107.3 with Tommy McFly last night. What makes this weekend different than the usual fun at George’s pad is also the FREE chocolate they’ll be giving out and the FREE sightseeing cruises, compliments of Spirit Cruises and Potomac Riverboat Company (while space is available).

Have a great weekend!
