Twitter party Wednesday Night at 9 p.m. for a great cause: Huggies Every Little Bottom

Join the Twitter party that’s all about a great cause – helping moms and babies in need! The fun and advocacy happens TONIGHT at 9 p.m. ET on Twitter, hashtag #Elb

So last week I didn’t post much. (OK, I didn’t post at all.) It was the first time in the years I’ve been writing A Parent in Silver Spring that this blog was not updated in less than five days with new information to assist and entertain parents.

The reason?

I was helping my community in person, and not just behind the screen of my computer. As a coordinator of a day camp, I was helping to put on an affordable service for local children staffed completely by unpaid volunteers. I’ve been a part of this program every summer since 2007 and it’s a totally rewarding experience. (It’s also so such an all-encompassing labor of love that I wasn’t even able to pre-write posts or schedule guest posters – sorry!)

In addition to the 175 children and youth volunteers served by our camp, we also always choose a non-profit to support through service work and donations. This year we chose the local women’s center Centro Tepeyac in downtown Silver Spring. It felt great to put our efforts towards a charity that is working to help women and children in the same geographic area serving the camp. Centro Tepeyac provides bilingual communication and goods and services to expectant and current mothers in the area (all mothers in need are served, no matter their background, beliefs or affiliation).

Guess what Centro Tepeyac Executive Director Mariana Vera says are one of the most-requested items by the local moms her non-profit assists?

Diapers.

It’s proof that the Huggies Every Little Bottom study, which revealed that 1 in 3 mothers have had to cut back on basics such as food and electricity to provide enough diapers for their babies, is very relevant to our community.

That’s why I’m proud to be a Huggies Every Little Bottom Blog Ambassador, and happy to participate in the Huggies Every Little Bottom Twitter Party tomorrow night at 9 p.m ET (if you’re on the west oast, there’s another party at 9 p.m. PT too!).

I hope you’ll join me, @JessicaAPISS on Twitter, at the #Elb Twitter party! You’ll be joined by the other Huggies Every Little Bottom Blog Ambassadors too: @jennyonthespot, @rookiemoms, @rookieheather,@rookiewhitney, @SmartyPantsMama @KimTracyPrince and @Mommywords.

Unlike other some Twitter parties where people grab their vino and pjs and log on to win prizes, this is a Twitter party all about spreading the word that there are women and children in this country in need.  And how we can assist them. Most kids will need more than 7,000 diapers before they’re totally potty-trained, so it’s pretty cool that Huggies is donating 22 MILLION diapers throughout the country (and some to Canada too, but don’t they have socialized diapers or something?)

And if, like me, you’re a chick blogger going to BlogHer next week, Huggies will be there too. But rather than giving out a ton of swag at the conference, they’re giving away DIAPERS. Just check in at the Every Little Bottom Huggies booth at BlogHer for a chance to enter the diaper raffle. You can use your winnings for your own kid’s bottom, or donate those diapers to a diaper bank that will assist families in need!

I normally don’t get too commercial, but I’m personally very impressed with the work that Huggies is doing to raise awareness about diaper need and mobilizing communities to get involved.

And I normally don’t do Twitter parties, but in order to help my fellow mamas? I’m totally making an exception. I hope you do too!
