GIVEAWAY: Two Family 4 Packs of Tickets to Strathmore’s Bowfire, Holiday Heart Strings

The winners drawn were Beatrice and Maggie C., and both have been contacted via email.

I think it’s important that the first time a child hears a violin played well, it’s not at a smelly Irish pub as she tries to score with the hot Australian backpacker, or via the string quartet his mother-in-law books for his own wedding as he sweats into his rented clothes. Let’s start a real appreciation of the beautiful sounds of strings early!

That’s why us families in the DC area are so lucky to have the incredible Strathmore performing arts hub right in North Bethesda, where we can introduce our children to classical, opera, folk and other great genres of music not found on Radio Disney (no offense to Selena, Demi and the Imagination Movers).

The perfect introduction, infused with holiday spirit and specialness?  The Friday night December 10th performance of Bowfire, Holiday Heart Strings at Strathmore Music Center. Bowfire features some of the world’s leading violinists and fiddlers, and has been called by The Washington Post “enormously entertaining.”

Bowfire’s string and dance (some of  the fiddlers step dance and sing, as well as pluck and bow) performance will feature classical, bluegrass, jazz, rock ‘n roll and Gypsy music, all with a festive holiday twist. The program will include diverse music from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker to Elvis’s “Blue Christmas,” the “Dreidel Song,” “Feliz Navidad,” “Sleigh Ride” and more.  Check out this cool promo video.

The show is suitable for children around age 7 and up, a superbly special night out for a family, whether your child totes his cello onto the bus every Thursday for orchestra or you’d just like some inspiration to dust off those old classical CDs and share them with your kids. Tickets are $30-$65 ($27-$58.50). For information or to purchase tickets, call (301) 581-5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.

Strathmore has generously provided TWO family 4 packs of tickets to readers!
