GIVEAWAY: Seventh Generation Green Your Home Supply and Gift Pack

“Mister!” he said with a sawdusty sneeze,

“I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees.

I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.

— The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss

I don’t compost. I’ve been known to laud the paper napkin. My car runs on 100% regular unleaded. But I believe I am doing my part to teach my children to be earth friendly and embrace green practices.

Sure, we recycle and the kids participate. In our house, recycling includes making sure all recyclables are sorted and down by the curb on Monday mornings, and the children are super at helping sort the paper, cardboard, bottles and cans. But for us, recycling also means regularly sorting through all of the thousands of objects in our home to make sure that those items we are not using find a better use elsewhere.

My kids have become expert declutterers. They can identify which items are a perfect fit for donation to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in our area, namely furniture, appliances, home goods and building supplies that can help build affordable homes. (List of items Habitat for Humanity ReStore accepts.) They also will come to you to pick up large items.

We also regularly compile bags for donations to other charities who perform pick-ups, drop children’s clothes and baby supplies off at local pregnancy centers and Freecycle (find a Freecyle group in your area). Our motto on possessions is that if we are not using it, let’s find it a home, and this keeps OUR home relaxing, neat and clutter-free.

And my sister Sarah, an environmental and sustainable development expert at a major university, is a fan of Seventh Generation diapers and wipes for her daughter/my niece. I had not used them until having Alice in April, but tried them out on Sarah’s recommendation. I’m now a fan too! Recently, Seventh Generation reduced the environmental footprint of their diapers through more absorbent cores that use less processed, chlorine-free wood pulp. Currently the eco-diapers feature a Lorax theme on their wastebands, for a cute enviro kid movie tie-in.

Cool tip – I buy my diapers in bulk online and have them delivered to the house, and Seventh Generation is now offering free shipping for orders over $50.

I recently received from Seventh Generation a Green Your Home Pack, which included a pack of the new improved diapers, wipes and a copy of The Lorax book. And now one of YOU guys can win an identical pack, too!

How do you live like the Lorax? Tell Seventh Generation below and be entered to win a Green Your Home prize pack!
