Washington DC Travel Using GoGoBot

I just learned about Gogobot.com, a new travel review website, and I am finding the site very easy to navigate with a toddler on my lap. I like the layout and real person reviews of hotels, museums and restaurants in other cities, as well as my own nearby Washington, DC.

The SITS Girls and GoGoBot invited me to write about Washington, DC places I recommend for family travel, which is like asking a circa 1999 single me to go to second base with Clive Owen. TWIST MY ARM.

Washington DC Hotels

My family and I love taking overnight or weekend getaways with the kids to DC and staying at hotels. We take a vacation without the expense and nightmare of air travel with children, hurray! Our children find the experience as neat-o as we grownups do. We are big fans of events like ICE and Christmas on the Potomac at the Gaylord National Resort (and be sure to look out later this week for an ICE family ticket giveaway!) and their packages for families are always a blast. Here’s my review of an overnight holiday season getaway at Gaylord.

We also dig Kimpton properties such as the Hotel Monaco in Alexandria, as I wrote about earlier this fall. Kimpton Hotels are so kid friendly!

Museums

If you are visiting DC, save your cash for the restaurants and hotel and hit the free Smithsonian museums. (Well, as crankypants people say, your tax dollars already paid for your admission.)  I love the Smithsonian National Air and Space and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History for children due to their fabuloso interactive “please touch” experiences.

Restaurants

With the kids, you cannot go wrong with Chef Spike’s Good Stuff Eatery for burgers and shakes and Spike’s We, the Pizza or 2 Amy’s for pizza. These are the Holy Grail for cool parents: kid-friendly, affordable and foodie heaven.
