End of Summer Family Fun Ideas from the Got Plans? Chat

Summer-Fun-Back-To-School

Planning outings with the kids those first weeks of summer is easy, right? You have energy, enthusiasm and the summer is your oyster. You are full of ideas…the zoo! the pool! the sprayground! $1 movies! camps!

But after nine weeks of ideas, are you ready for some new ones?

That’s where the Washington Post Going Out Guide’s Got Plans? chat comes in. Yesterday I was invited to join the Going Out Gurus and Weekend assignment editor Amy Joyce for a live discussion of what to do in the DC area with kids these last days before schools start.

Ideas included the Maryland State Fair, the Maryland Renaissance Festival, choo choo rides and train museums, animal farms and pick-your-owns, puppet shows at The Puppet Co., outdoor films, a new DC playground at the Beauvoir Schoolhot air balloon launches, telescopic observing of the sun at Air and Space and more.

Read the full chat transcript of family fun, as well as lots of inspiration for things to do without the kids from Fritz Hahn and Going Out Guide staff reporters.

As for me, I will be unplugging this coming week to spend time with my family before my youngest begins preschool. See you back on the blog August 26, and may you all have glorious last days of summer and a wonderful return to the ol’ education routine.
