Every since we hosted a Gametruck Party for friends last summer, my kids have been begging to have another one.
Luckily, GameTruck‘s Erik Maxwell obliged. I called Erik to reserve a GameTruck (the traditional, non-blogger parent way: with my credit card) for Charlie’s birthday in December, and Erik suggested an August weekday review to remind A Parent in Silver Spring readers about this awesome service.
The kids screamed so loudly my ear drums have still not recovered.
We had a Back to School bash the day of sixth grade orientation for Charlie and other incoming sixth grade friends and they were in gamer heaven. GameTruck truly is the coolest party experience for kids who are too old for pony rides.
The GameTruck concept: A massive, beautiful, tricked-out trailer comes to your house. Inside the totally self-powered and climate-controlled, leather-seated party venue are six flat-screen HDTVs and enhanced sound systems. The truck has big gorgeous windows that lift up to create an indoor-outdoor experience while kids’ pop music plays on a sound system. Kids can choose from over 50 of the latest multiplayer video games and all the major video game consoles such as XBOX360, Nintendo WiiU and Playstation.
Up to 20 kids can play games at one time (and you can also book Large Format parties for larger groups), and parents can choose to remove games rated M for Mature. Erik called before the party to learn about the ages and interests of the party guests, and he made sure the hottest games in our group’s range were loaded and ready to go.
At the party GameCoach Erik managed the entire event. He helped kids take turns, select games and calmly managed all the children’s wants and turns with complete patience. All I had to do was remind kids to leave their drinks and snacks outside the truck. (I set up a “VIP lounge” refreshment area outside on the lawn by the GameTruck, as no food or drink are allowed inside. Charlie kind of rolled his eyes at the VIP Lounge label but hey, if your mom can’t embarrass than who can?)
The party was so interactive and bonding of an environment for our group. GameTruck is recommended for kids age six years and up. The prices for GameTruck Howard County are comparable to other birthday party options.
My family and I are now complete groupies. Both Charlie and Eve want this experience for their birthdays, and the party is such a hit and so easy to coordinate, I am all in.
