This morning I had the pleasure of joining the team of Great Day Washington to talk about those apps that can make a parents’ life a little easier. Show host Markette Sheppard is a fellow mom and she had her own app to add to my list.
Watch the Apps for Making Parent Life Easier segment and then read on for links to the apps and more essential information, as well as a how to get $50 off your Chime sitter!
We use the free version of the Cozi app to keep our shared family schedule. This way everyone is aware of and on-board for school picnics, band concerts, taekwondo belt tests and dance rehearsals. My husband Chris and I can even sync our work schedules to it so we can track each other’s travel and evening events in order to manage who is driving our kids. I also love the shared grocery list that we can both add to, so no matter who next hits the store, everything we are out of is listed.
Chime is the free mobile and desktop app by Sittercity that connects you with top-rated sitters on demand. As I have written about before, I am a fan and am always impressed with the convenience and the wonderful, responsible, kind sitters we have been connected with through Chime. Chime sitters go through a detailed vetting process that includes an in-person meeting with the Chime team. The process is highly selective — only 1 in 5 sitters who apply make the cut.
I usually use Chime to find a sitter a few days ahead of my needed time, but the app even works for impromptu plans, connecting you with a sitter at the last minute if need be!
Cool discount: Use code SILVERSPRING2016for $50 in Chime credits toward your first booking. (That’s about three hours of free babysitting for up to four kids!) Expires 7/31/16.
I rarely clip coupons, but when I do, I never have them on me when I am in-store. Now I leave the clipping to free app Coupon Sherpa. You can search by store for in-store and online purchases. Two weeks ago I was in line at Lord and Taylor to buy a dress, and I quickly typed Lord and Taylor in the search box. Immediately Coupon Sherpa pulled up a 20% off coupon that the cashier scanned from my phone. Score! You can also search for online coupon codes, and search by item that is on your list. Need a new blender? Search Coupon Sherpa to find the best deal site and biggest coupon before you buy.
This was Markette’s favorite mom app. She explained how we do not need a pricey video baby monitors if we already have iPads, iPhones, iPod touches, Macs and other Apple devices with video. Keep one device turned on your baby and preside over his/her sleep on another device with a crystal clear picture and unlimited range. The app also notifies you about baby’s activities with noise and motion alerts. This app is $3.99 on iTunes.
