Teachers rock! As the daughter of an elementary school teacher and the parent of three school-aged children who are tirelessly served by incredible educators, teachers are our family’s superheroes.
Not only have teachers dedicated their careers to expanding the minds of our kids, they selflessly put their own, (under-paid, IMHO) earnings right back into their classrooms. It is estimated that 99.5 percent of all public school teachers use their own money to equip their classrooms, frequently at a cost of more than $400 per year. (Source: Education Market Association) And in my personal experience of viewing my mother purchase supplies for her students, and seeing the extras that my children’s teachers provide in their classrooms, that $400 figure? It seems low.
DonorsChoose.org is a charity that provides teachers in need of classroom supplies and resources the ability to publicize their project needs online, allowing donors find them and lend a hand. At DonorsChoose you can search by need level, which projects are furthest from or closest to being funded, local area, or your own kids’ schools and teachers. DonorsChoose has funded more than 700,000 classroom projects for teachers, and has positively affected more than 18 million students across the country.
This #StaplesForStudents partnership also has a dynamic spokesperson dedicated to helping teachers inspire their students: Katy Perry.
She’s just the best. The young students in my house are obsessed with Katy Perry her songs, her quirky-fun style and movie, and I love how she is a positive role model. I know other parents and teachers feel the same, which is why the #StaplesForStudents Sweepstakes is seriously amazing:
Beginning June 26 through September 10, fans who spend $25 or more in any Staples store will receive a code to enter for a chance to win a grand prize $50,000 scholarship, plus a trip for two to Los Angeles to meet Katy Perry! Four other first prize winners and one guest each will also win air travel to Los Angeles, two nights stay and spending money to meet Katy Perry at the VIP Winners Celebration.
You know you are already going to be hitting Staples to buy school supplies for the kids, so entering is easy. Beginning June 26 through September 10, every time you spend $25 or more in any Staples store you will receive a unique entry code on your receipt. Then you simply enter that code online at Staples.com/StaplesForStudents. Entries must be submitted before September 10, 2016 at 11:59 PM ET and entrants must be 13 years or older.
I love when social good campaigns work seamlessly with our family’s values, lives and goals. #StaplesforStudents makes helping the teachers of DonorsChoose.org during the back-to-school season easy, fun and rewarding for our teacher superheroes!
Disclosure: I am partnering with Staples to help spread the word about #StaplesForStudents. All opinions are my own.
