Relief Work draws on the double meaning of relief: easing of pain and relief sculpture. Richardson and Benevenia exhibit mixed-media sculptures and drawings with an industrial aesthetic. Michael Benevenia’s work references Civil War-era prosthetics, but restore the architecture of the human psyche instead of the body. John Richardson’s relief sculptures combine found industrial objects to challenge conventional ideas of reality.Artist Talk: Thursday, March 30, 5–6 p.m., room 101 Reception: Thursday, March 30, 6–8 p.m., King Street Gallery [less-]

The artist often takes a multimedia approach, incorporating elements of sculpture and performance to investigate the dynamic acts of listening, communicating, and moving. "Arrhythmia of the Body" features photographs and 2D mixed media works that meditate on the acts of listening, making, and moving. The main focus of the exhibition will be a series of photos that document the artist moving through space wearing gigantic prosthetic hands and feet. The prosthetics were designed to disrupt the artist's everyday movements, in order to make her more conscious of them. Supplementing this work will be a series of 2D mixed media panels composed of hundreds of tiny ears created out of clay. They will be arranged in ways that encourage the viewer to develop a renewed awareness of the human body. [less-]

Home School Production Company
The vision of the Home School Production Company is to develop and inspire a community of self-confident, insightful creators with a passion for collaboration, theatre, and the arts. This Fall, the Home School Production Company students have been working hard brainstorming and developing ideas to write their very own play. The winter/spring segment (January 13th – March 31st) will focus on rehearsing and producing that original play and will culminate in a final production in March. Students will rehearse, design and then perform the student-written piece in a full-scale production on the Highwood stage! This class culminates in a final showcase performance. The Winter segment runs January 13th – March 3rd, and meets on Fridays from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM. Participation Fee is $200 (or $125 if you also sign up for the Home School Production Company).

The Holidays are upon us and Winter will be here before we know it! Make sure to keep warm and active by signing up for a fun Highwood Home School program! The vision of the Home School Production Company is to develop and inspire a community of self-confident, insightful creators with a passion for collaboration, theatre, and the arts. This Fall, the Home School Production Company students have been working hard brainstorming and developing ideas to write their very own play. The winter/spring segment (January 13th - March 31st) will focus on rehearsing and producing that original play and will culminate in a final production in March. Students will rehearse, design and then perform the student-written piece in a full-scale production on the Highwood stage! The Home School Production Company is open to students grades 2-7 and meets every Friday from 12:30 - 3:30 pm. Participation fee is $250 plus a $25 materials fee.Back by popular demand! The Home School class this winter is a continuation of our Fall "Living Shakespeare," where students grades 1-7 get to explore the world of Shakespeare in this engaging, active class. Not only do students get a chance to read and act some of Shakespeare's greatest scenes and monologues, they also explore the stories behind his work and what life was like in Shakespearean times. This class culminates in a final showcase performance. The Winter segment runs January 13th - March 3rd, and meets on Fridays from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Participation Fee is $200 (or $125 if you also sign up for the Home School Production Company). The Student Tech Crew is open to Home School students in grades 4 - 12 who will meet regularly to learn about all aspects of Technical Theatre and create the technical elements of Highwood's Mainstage Season of student and professional productions. Students will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of technical theatre and will get to choose their focus area to work on for each production (set, props, costumes, lighting, sound). Tech Crew members can choose to come one or two days per week: Thursday evenings 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm or Saturday afternoons 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm. The winter/spring semester runs from January 14th – May 20th, but we offer open enrollment throughout the year, so you can join us anytime! Participation Fee is $80 a month for once a week sessions. Kayla Plosz paints to play with color and form. She says, “I love the weirdness of color; how there’s a limitless number of possibilities.”  Individual colors evoke highly particular emotional responses, which are further complicated by their arrangement. She is interested in impure abstraction. Her paintings dabble in representation but are non-committal. There are hints or intimations of images that are never fully revealed or completed. Through this use of color and form she seeks to explore the polemic tensions of creation and destruction, the linear and spatial, flat and dimensional. [less-]

[less-]

[less-]
