Artists & Makers Studios on Parklawn in Rockville will present three glorious exhibits in three galleries for the month of June. “The Color of BOOM” - Sparked by her childhood fascination with Christmas lights and fireworks, abstract artist Terry Sitz channels her passion for color onto large canvases heavily layered with paint and up-cycled ephemera. “In the Flow” with Cristian Ianculescu - Like water, women are the primordial source. They purify, bless and transform. Like water they flow over and around all obstacles, and, in the process, they change the world. “Unfinished – Small Work Paintings” with John J. Bruns - with an unfinished look, the collaboration between the artist and the viewer becomes paramount and a story can unfold in between the painter’s brush marks. When the imagination has room to play, the painting becomes more personal. Resident artists’ open studios round out the evening for visitors at Parklawn.Artists & Makers Studios 2 on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville will present two exhibits in the main galleries for the month of June. “The Obsessions of F. Lennox Campello” In his first regional solo show in 8 years, the Cuban-born artist delivers a buffet of artistic offerings in a variety of media and subjects exploring the artist's by now familiar and usual subjects: A 30-year-old affair with Mexican icon Frida Kahlo, the "Obsessive Drawings" series, deep inner biographical looks at his own life, and others. Shakes Expressions With shaky hands, Florida artist Ken Radon creates artwork as unique as his method, and reminds us all that creativity thrives with physical challenges. A solo exhibit for Montgomery County Camera Club member Arlene K. Polangin, exhibits in New Master’s Gallery, Gallery 209, and resident artists’ open studios round out the evening. [less-]

Art Walk Opening Reception: Friday, June 2, 6 to 8pmGlen Echo Park Partnership is pleased to present Aerial View. This exhibition features mixed media paintings by Kate Fitzpatrick, punctuated by the sculptural work of Sally Myers. Kate Fitzpatrick creates multi-layered, mixed media paintings that use maps as a collage material to address themes of place and identity.  Through repurposed maps she creates abstracted images of current and historical geographies that have emerged along our waterways. Using a variety of media allows her to create complex textures and layers with paper, paint, and ink to depict various waterways as viewed from above.  Though made from steel, Sally Myers’ sculptures fit well into nature. With her simplified rendition of plants and birds, the viewer can sense nature from an unnatural material. Intended as outdoor sculpture, the works evolve over time under the influence of the elements. Together, these works evoke landscapes and the confluence of their inhabitants as they celebrate the beauty of nature and symbiotic relationships of land, people and animals. Opening Reception and Artist Talk: Friday, June 16, 7 – 9 PMThe prints in this exhibition grew from a collaborative partnership with a plant geneticist at Marquette University, Dr. Michael Shläppi, who is developing a variety of early-flowering / cold-tolerant rice to be grown in Wisconsin. Oryza sativa, domesticated Asian rice, is a staple crop that alone supplies over 20% of the calories that humans consume worldwide. The decorative arrangements and stylized environments that typify the prints in Oryza acknowledge a natural history that includes human control and manipulation. Cynthia Brinich-Langlois blends the aesthetic language of botanical illustration and historical intersections of art, science, and agriculture. [less-]

[less-]
