"Journeys" refers to Marketa Jirouskova's main source of inspiration: a journey itself as a long, arduous travel in search of nature's highlights, in the footsteps of earlier explorers, or following her own paths. The exhibition presents images of exotic birds and iguanas on isolated islands in the Pacific Ocean; penguins and polar bears with iceberg backdrops in Antarctica and the North Pole; and the highest mountains on earth in the Himalayas. Jirouskova creates a wonderland composed of pristine, uninhabited, and undisturbed places, difficult to leave for their beauty and harmony, where human traces are still minimal or non-existent. Jirouskova traveled to those remote destinations to create evocative, almost painting-like, intimate portraits of our natural world. She hopes to inspire the public with respect, appreciation, and admiration of nature worth preserving.Opening Reception: Saturday, November 17, 4 – 6pm [less-]

Opening Reception and Artist Talk: Friday, December 7, 7 – 9 PMJessica Jane Julius' work examines our current "culture of fear", exploring how fear is infiltrating the ways in which we navigate the world. Her solo exhibition "On the Verge" presents a look at the anxieties and complexities of language through the lens of dyslexia. Based on the hit Will Ferrell movie, Elf has quickly entered the pantheon of holiday classics, and for good reason. This warm-hearted family musical tells the story of Buddy, a human accidentally transported to the North Pole as a baby who grows up believing himself to be an elf, despite his large size and sub-par toy-making. Upon learning the truth from Santa, Buddy journeys to New York to find his father and help the jaded city folk rediscover the wonder and joy of the Christmas season. The humor of the original film is boosted by a carol-inflected score and lots of dancing to guarantee plenty of smiles and laughter for the whole family. The first of three Resident Professional Premieres at Olney this season. [less-]

After a recent successful presentation on Arts in Public Schools at TEDxMidAtlantic, Clancy continues her focus on community leadership through arts education in 2018/2019. The ClancyWorks overall message is that dance can be a means of building bridges within a diverse community; connecting people across generations, socio-economic circumstances, and between public and private sector businesses and nonprofits, in order to support community development.ASPIRE participants are a part of an after-school residency through the Excel Beyond the Bell (EBB) program. This program, sponsored by the Collaboration Council and the Montgomery County Department of Recreation, supports learning outside of the classroom. Created in 2008, the program is a response to the demand for high-quality after-school programming for students across Montgomery County. Students in this program will showcase the skills they have learned and give audiences a glimpse into ClancyWorks community involvement. In addition to middle school students from the ASPIRE program, the concert will feature Albert Einstein High School students from ClancyWorks residency program as they present Cityscape, a piece that physicalizes the energy and diversity of urban environments.ClancyWorks Dancers will present excerpts from their recent work, THE RESILIENCE PROJECT, which opens a dialogue among artists, students and audience members in response to the tumultuous current events that we face in our lives and communities. Sharing this work aligns with the concert’s intention to use the arts as a vehicle for building bridges throughout the community. Because of the generous support from The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County and the Maryland State Arts Council, we are able to offer this amazing performance experience free to the general public!
