The Culture Center of TECRO will host an exhibition titled “What do you see?” to present three Taiwan young-and-upcoming artists’ works. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to showcase an avant-garde collection of paintings by Taiwan young artists for viewers from the greater Washington metropolitan area. Admission is free.“What do you see?” is an exhibition that challenges the viewer’s perception of reality by contesting conventions in sight and language. The exhibition will present the selected works of Pei-Shih Tu, Teng-Yuan Chang and Yu-An Liao.Pei-Shih Tu often adopts a narrative filled with fantasies to respond to the conflicts and ridiculous nature of the real world in her works.Teng-Yuan Chang is skilled in deriving artistic inspiration from everyday objects, using painting, comic and animation devices to reflect upon our visual experiences in modern life.Yu-An Liao’s works are often filled with pop and cartoon elements and symbolize various psychological scenarios experienced in modern individual lives. The four-month event is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO), and the Art Bank Taiwan. Come join us for a scifi adventure at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center this fall! Voytto Tech: a scifi fable combines science and technology with a story exploring the tough topics of bullying and social inequity. Klipp Casey travels from a planet far, far away to study at Voytto Tech, the most famous science magnet school in the galaxy. Right away, Klipp has trouble fitting in at his new school, and becomes a target for bullying. What can Klipp do? Who can he go to for help? And what can anyone do about the huge energy crisis threatening the planet? This highly interactive play is performed by three actors who become a variety of characters. The entire audience participates from their seats, becoming characters in the story and brainstorming possible solutions for Klipp's problems. No play can or should offer an easy solution to the complex problem of bullying and social inequity; Voytto Tech offers schools an opportunity to open up dialogue about these complex issues, in an engaging and interactive way. This production is supported in part by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council. On the web at MSAC.org. Also, supported in part by Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, the Montgomery County government and the generous support of a legion of donors and partners. This exhibition presents recent oils and pastels from artist Gonzalo Ruiz Navarro about the elusive nature of color. Gonzalo finds his inspiration in how light reveals reality and how it affects the color we see in objects and landscapes. He is a realist painter but when asked about his favorite subject, he replies “color.” There are many theories about how color works in nature and how you can interpret that in a painting, but ultimately, Gonzalo finds that is something we will always try to interpret and will never be fully captured.Location: Stone Tower Gallery at Glen Echo Park [less-]
