Jam sessions are a musical environment that everyone regardless of skill level can benefit from and enjoy, so you don't need to worry about being perfectly prepared. All you need to do is come out and play! Upcoming Jazz Jams: June 23, August 13; 7:00pm Jazz Combos (Ages 11 to Adult) These small ensembles provide the opportunity for youth and adult students of all levels and instruments to deepen their knowledge of jazz and develop their skills in a group context. Students are placed in age-appropriate ensembles based on instrument or voice, experience, and availability. Each group meets weekly with a member of Levine's expert jazz faculty, who coaches the students in studying and playing songs from the standard jazz repertoire, developing their improvisation abilities, and learning to work as a group. Each session culminates in a performance for family and friends during the final class. Students are welcomed and encouraged to enroll for multiple consecutive sessions. Please note: No audition is required, but students should have at least one year of study on their instrument and basic skills in music-reading, improvisation, and playing from a fakebook. All instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome. Piano, amplifiers, and drumset are provided. Adult students are placed in combos with other adults. July 5, July 7, July 14, July 21; 7:00pm All That Jazz Camp (Ages 11-18) Dig into jazz and learn what it's all about! This weeklong camp is perfect for middle and high school students interested in expanding their musical horizons by exploring jazz and improvisation in a welcoming, coached environment. Under the guidance of Levine’s expert jazz faculty, camp participants learn and apply the basics of jazz improvisation, repertoire, theory and history, while participating in coached ensembles and jam sessions. Culminating in a performance for family and friends on the last day, this camp provides students with an ideal training ground to develop or sharpen the skills needed to participate in a high school or Levine jazz ensemble. All instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome. Piano, amplifiers, and drumset are provided. Please note: No audition is required, but students should have basic music-reading skills and at least one year of study on their primary instrument. August 8-12, 1:00-6:00pm Saxophone at Strathmore (Ages 12-17) Take part in a fun-filled week of saxophone! Students of all experience levels participate in a wide variety of activities together, including saxophone choir with access to a full range of instruments, including soprano and baritone saxophone, small ensembles, topic talks (breathing, articulation, audition strategies, tone production, jazz, and extended techniques), music theory, listening, master classes, sight-reading and instrument repair clinic. Each summer, the instructors from the Arts Barn have the opportunity to exhibit their personal work in an invitational exhibit.  The theme for this year's exhibit is "Americana" and faculty members were encouraged to share their interpretations of American history, culture and vistas. In addition, the participating faculty also invited select students to share their artwork. The Artists Reception and Education Open House will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m.  Meet the faculty and students, enjoy refreshments, participate in demos and check out the Autumn class and workshop offerings. Jazz Jams (All Ages) Levine's monthly jazz and blues jams are a great opportunity for musicians of any age and proficiency to experience jazz from the inside.  In a fun and structured environment facilitated by Levine jazz faculty members, musicians will get a chance to play and improvise on a couple well-known jazz standards.  In addition to facilitating the session, the Levine faculty will also provide general instruction and specific guidance where necessary. The week culminates in a final student performance for family and friends. August 8-12, 9:00am-1:00pm   [less-]
