GIVEAWAY: $40 to Spend at Halloween Express from Plum District

As a child, my mom made many of my Halloween costumes using a Butterick pattern and a sewing machine. I remember an adorable witch costume with a skirt trimmed in orange rickrack, a silver Judy Jetson miniskirt, a pink tulle ballerina tutu, a fairy princess wand made from a star-shaped sponge squeegie sprayed with glitter.

(She created those costumes, mind you, while working over 40 hours a week as a single mom of two girls.)

You know how I “sew” my children’s Halloween costumes? I give them all the catalogs that come in the mail to pour over, have them circle their favorites and decide on their final costume, and then I search the Internet and local stores for the cheapest, cutest version possible.

Sometimes I feel like a fraud not owning a sewing machine and piecing together a cute scarecrow or Anakin Skywalker getup while the children sleep at night.

Other times I wonder if my mom would have bought my costumes if places like Halloween Express existed back in the ’70s and ’80s!

If you too buy your kids’ costumes, you will love this deal from Plum District DC:

$20 buys you a whopping $40 to spend at Halloween Express!

Heck, even if you DO sew your kids’ costumes, I bet you don’t personally craft the paper plates for the class Halloween party, or personally spin those spooky cobwebs you drape around your front door. You can spend that $40 on all sorts of decorations and party supplies…but it will only cost you one Andrew Jackson from the ATM.
