Family Fun Runs Saturday April 20 in Silver Spring and Landover

This weekend get out and run or walk with your family and friends for two great causes.

Ben’s Run is a 5K and family 1 mile run/walk (friendly dogs on leashes welcome too!) this Saturday April 20 in Silver Spring. The race honors of local boy Ben Goldfogle who died of Acute Myeloid Leukemia on September 3, 2009, one month before his 12th birthday, after a six-year battle.

Proceeds from Ben’s Run 2013 will benefit the oncology and bone marrow units in the Center of Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s National Medical Center.  The funds raised will be invested in cancer research, including the area of bone marrow transplant (BMT), and used to identify novel therapies to treat childhood cancers and minimize the side effects of cancer treatment.

My family and I are participating in Ben’s Run, and we hope you will join us! Here are the deets and family-fun aspects of this race.

  • Saturday April 20th at Stonegate Elementary School in Silver Spring.  On-site registration begins at 7am, welcoming ceremony at 8am, race begins at 8:30am. For all the details about the race course, including course maps and directions, go to About The Course.
  • Register online through Thursday April 18. $30 per person, children 4 and under are free, dogs are $5. Strollers are permitted, but no skate boards, roller blades or skates.  The event is rain or shine.

  1. Thank you so much for the support! I am a little sad though. I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 22. I am currently in nursing school and aspire to be a Pediatric Oncology nurse. I wish I could participate in Ben’s Run 🙁 I definitely plan to donate!
