Smithsonian Early Enrichment Classes for Babies 3-18 months

If you are waiting until your infant is older to introduce her to our incredible local Smithsonian Institutions, the wait is officially over: The Smithsonian offers classes for babies and parents!

I just learned that the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center (SEEC) offers family workshops for young children and their parents to learn together. The curriculum is carefully crafted by early childhood educators with museum experience. The developmentally appropriate workshops promote critical thinking, encourage creativity and provide a warm bonding experience between the child and her parent or caregiver.

I think these classes sound like an ideal way to enjoy a fall day with a baby! My husband and I have always been fans of hitting the museums with babies and toddlers, but to have the experience led by experts skilled in providing the most valuable experience for little ones…well, that just sounds so awesome we might have to have another baby. (I’m kidding…sort of.)  And if you are considering enrolling your baby and you in a class together, can you choose a more perfect provider than the Smithsonian?

This fall SEEC is offering two sessions for babies age 3-18 months. The theme of these classes is “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” and will explore transportation on the water, tailored for babies. The sailing fun will travel through through several museums during the course of the four class meetings.  Bring your stroller or sling, as the classes walk together to Smithsonian locations on the Mall. The classes meet at the National Museum of Natural History in a SEEC classroom and include museum visits and classroom activities.

One Row, Row, Row Your Boat class meets on four consecutive Saturdays, October 12 – November 2 from 10am-12pm — perfect for parents seeking a weekend learning experience with their child. The other class meets on Mondays October 21 – November 18 (excluding Nov. 11) from 10am-12pm, which is great for stay-at-home parents or nannies.

The cost for each session is $170 per child and caregiver duo, however, if you head over to SEEC’s Facebook Page and give it a LIKE, you will receive a coupon code for 15 percent off all 2013-2014 classes.

Register for the Saturday October 12 – November 2 10am-12pm session of Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

  1. I’m assuming these are on hold since the museums aren’t open to the public right now?

  2. If the shutdown is still in effect, SEEC will adjust the dates of the course.
